Title : U.S.S. Wandrian Filename : Wandrian.zip Version : 1.0 FINAL This ship can be used in SFC II Date : 5/10/2001 Author : Don Woligroski (A.K.A. - Cleeve) website : www.STARYARDS.com Credits : Brad at SFB to SFC for making the SCME utility available to us starship lovers, and whose readme file I used as a template as my own! Check them out at http://starfleet.thegamers.net *****NOTE***** Use the file Wandrian-i.mod for SFC II (with illumination maps) Description of the Mod File --------------------------- The Wandrian Class: a ship entirely of my own design (although I borrowed heavily from Paramount's enterprise components, obviously...) --- Background of the Wandrian class: Deep-space exploration cruiser In the ' golden age' of the Federation , large sensor dishes were a standard issue item on StarFleet's ships of the line. The Federation was growing rapidly, and more often that not frigates, destroyers, and cruisers were called upon to explore the new frontiers of space. Even ships such as the Hermes Class scout and Saladin Class destroyer had full sensor dishes attached to the bottom of their primary hulls. By the year 2289, this situation had changed. Federation borders, for the most part, had reached their political limits at the edge of the Klingon, Romulan, Tholian, and Gorn territories . Federation technology had progressed to a point where standard sensor arrays were more than sufficient for non-exploration tasks. New federation designs, such as the Okinawa Class frigate, Akula Class destroyer, and Miranda Class light cruiser had no main sensor at all. Larger ships like the Enterprise Class heavy cruiser - while still sporting the large sensor dish - were rarely called upon for pure exploration duties. Still, the Federation was still very interested in gathering data on as many uncharted sectors of space it could. Since many newer designs did not include the main sensor, Starfleet comissioned the design of a deep-space exploration cruiser to fill this gap. The ideal vessel would not need to be as large as a heavy cruiser, but would need a powerful main sensor; It would not be a warship, but it would need to be able to defend itself in the frontier; and it would need to have an extended range and high cruising warpspeed. A simple ship design was created, little more than a standard primary hull with a Sensor dish attached. Most of these requirements of the new ship were standard fare, save the warp drive; so Starfleet engineers went to work on designing a warp engine that could achieve these higher sustained cruising speeds without sacrificing range. In the end, they produced the FWG-17. The FWG-17 engines were incredibly advanced for their time, and served as the blueprint for most future federation warp engine designs. Smaller than the FWG-1, they incorporated radical design changes in the warpfield coils and bussard collectors that improved warp engine efficiency by 34% and increased maximum speed 21% over the standard FWG-1 design. The drawback: the FWG-17 was very expensive and difficult to produce. The cost of was almost double that of the standard FWG-1 warp engine, and it required rare alloys that defied efforts to be replicated. In the end, the new design was dubbed the Wandrian Class, and 50 vessels were slated for producton - when and if the necessary materials could be gathered for the new engines. Only 24 of the class were actually produced, however, due to these difficulties. Starfleet engineers were tasked to find cheaper and practical ways of producing the FWG-17... until the Transwarp Project began. The FWG-17 project was put on hold and Starfleet concentrated it's warp engineering efforts on Transwarp Drive technology. It is of note however, that when the Transwarp Project was shelved due to as-yet unsolvable problems, the FWG-17 project was re-opened. This rejeuvenated project, coupled with the lessons learned attempting Transwarp Drive, pioneered the fundamental advances that have pushed the Federation's warp drive technology into the future. Because of this, the FWG-17 is considered the true forefather of current warp drive technology, and is a direct descendant of the warp engines found on the Ambassador Class starships - which are considered to be the first true fifth-generation warp engines. Steps to install ---------------- 1. Make a new directory in your Starfleet Command\Assets\Models\ folder called "Wandrian" 2. Copy the contents of the zip file into the new "Starfleet Command\Assets\Models\Wandrian\" folder. 3. Finally, open the shiplist.txt file located in the Starfleet Command\Assets\Specs\ folder with Notepad. a. From here you have two choices you can: 1. Replace the model geometry of one of the existing ships (the F-CB heavy command cruiser is my pick) OR with the following \Assets\Models\Excellentia\Wandrian-i.mod b. Or : 1. you can insert the Wandrian stats inbetween the existing row entries of the shiplist.txt file. <> Copyright and Distribution Permissions -------------------------------------- THIS PATCH IS NOT MADE, DISTRIBUTED, OR SUPPORTED BY INTERPLAY TM & (C) INTERPLAY & PARAMOUNT PICTURES.
