I've always liked this ship alot, but I couldn't tell you excactly why... it just looks neat. - Cleeve out --- The history of the Excellentia Class: When StarFleet was considering comissioning the construction of the Excelsior Class on a large scale, it came up against tremendous political opposition from groups concerned by the as-yet unheard of cost of such large ships. There were other issues raised in the federation council as well by members who were unsatisfied by the lack of hard data that a force of larger ships would be preferable to many smaller, cheaper vessels. In response to this, the Excellentia Class was designed as an alternative. Only slightly larger than the Constitution Class workhorse, the Excellentia was fully equipped to deal with scientific and diplomatic missions. But the teeth on this cruiser had to be comperable to those of the Excelsior class, or the ships would not meet the needs of the federation. New Klingon ships, such as the K'teremny class, were too powerful a threat for regular federation cruisers. With this design philosophy in mind, the Excellentia Class was created with two rear-firing photon tubes in addition to the two forward tubes that were standard on most Starfleet cruisers of the time. In addition, all of the photon tubes aboard the Excellentia can fire 3 times the speed of a standard federation launcher. To accomodate this structurally, the designers of the ship had to incorporate large extentions to the primary hull, giving the Excellentia a design unique in Starfleet. The ship exceeded all specifications and expectations; but this was, in part, it's downfall. Opponents of the class were concerned by the Excellentia's disproportional armorment, calling it a "thinly veiled Battlecruiser". In the pacifistic climate of the era - with the first uneasy peace talks with the Klingon Empire - this was an undesirable category. In the meantime, the Excelsior Class was proving it's versatility again and again at the command of the legendary Captain Sulu. In the end, only one ship of this class was produced - the Class Ship, U.S.S. Excellentia NX-2100. It was put under the command of Captain Damon Cleeve, and was frequently included in special "task forces" where it's strength was needed. The ship has proved so successful that starfleet is considering upgrading a portion of the ageing Constitution Class up to Excellentia Specifications. Steps to install ---------------- 1. Make a new directory in your Starfleet Command\Assets\Models\ folder called "Excellentia" 2. Copy the contents of the zip file into the new "Starfleet Command\Assets\Models\Excellentia\" folder. 3. Finally, open the sfbspc.txt file located in the Starfleet Command\Assets\Specs\ folder with Notepad. a. From here you have two choices you can: 1. Replace the model geometry of one of the existing ships (the F-CB heavy command cruiser is my pick) with the following \Assets\Models\Excellentia\Excellentia.mod b. Or : 1. you can insert the Excellentia stats inbetween the existing row entries of the sfbspc.txt file. <> Copyright and Distribution Permissions -------------------------------------- THIS PATCH IS NOT MADE, DISTRIBUTED, OR SUPPORTED BY INTERPLAY TM & (C) INTERPLAY & PARAMOUNT PICTURES.
