Title : U.S.S Charger Filename : Charger.zip Version : 1.1 final This ship can be used in both SFC and SFC II Date : 2/28/2000 Author : Don Woligroski (A.K.A. - Cleeve) Email : soulwolf@escape.ca URL : http://www.STARYARDS.com Credits : Brad at SFB to SFC for making the SCME utility available to us starship lovers, and whose readme file I used as a template as my own! check them out at http://starfleet.thegamers.net *****NOTE***** Use the file Charger.mod for SFC Use the file Charger-i.mod for SFC II (with illumination maps) Description of the Modification ------------------------------- But here's a design I've had in my head for a while. Nothing fancy, just a speedy little destroyer. I wrote up a little conjectural history on the class for those interested below. History of the Charger Class: At the height of the cold war between the Klingon Empire and the Federation, there was tremendous pressure on both sides to be the first to achieve Transwarp Drive. The Federation's bid to end the race first was, of course, the revolutionary Excelsior class. When the plans for the mammoth ship were drafted, starfleet engineers were forced to design completely new systems to accomodate the vessel. The untried Impulse drive, sensor array, weapons systems, and computer core concerned the engineers enough to warrant the comissioning of a hardware testbed before construction of the colossal ship would be approved. A relatively small Destroyer-sized vessel was hastily thrown together to prove wether or not the new systems would integrate. Completely new from the ground up, this ship was put through her paces for months. As the tiny ship sported the huge Excelsior Class Impulse drives, she set many sublight acceleration records during testing. Her modified FWG-1 warp engines, while designed for standard warp subspace, underwent transwarp modifications as well. These modifications were not intended for sustained transwarp travel, but only to see if the drive itself was feasable. The little ship did not dissapoint and proved transwarp drive possible with her 0.00024 second transwarp jump on November 2nd, 2285. Even though the jump destroyed the testbed's warp coil in the process, starfleet engineers (under constant pressure from politicians) considered this achievement sufficient to give the green light for construction of the Excelsior NX-2000. The rest is history... we know that stable Transwarp Drive technology still eludes the Federation as well as most races in the Galaxy. When the Excelsior's transwarp experiment failed and engineers rechecked the testbed data, the difficulties associated with sustained transwarp travel became more apparent. Excelsior's engines were modified for conventional warp drive, and though the ship never actually reached transwarp speeds the class has been a phenomenal success. What does this have to do with the Charger Class? Well, when Starfleet announced the need for a Fast Destroyer for patrolling the Neutral Zone, the Excelsior team submitted the Excelsior hardware testbed. One of the engineers was a fan of mid-20th century antique "Hot Rods" and dubbed the vessel "Charger" because of her phenomenal acceleration capabilities. The name stuck, and since the Charger Class met or exceeded all of the destroyer specifications that Starfleet required, this excellent vessel has been an important part of the Federation's armada ever since. Steps to install ---------------- 1. Make a new directory in your Starfleet Command\Assets\Models\ folder called "Charger" 2. Copy the contents of the zip file into the new "Starfleet Command\Assets\Models\Charger\" folder. 3. Finally, open the sfbspc.txt (or shiplist.txt in sfc II) file located in the Starfleet Command\Assets\Specs\ folder with MS Excel. a. From here you have two choices you can: 1. Replace the model geometry of one of the existing ships (the new Jersey class is my pick) with the following \Assets\Models\Charger\Charger.mod (FOR SFC I) OR with the following \Assets\Models\Charger\Charger-i.mod (FOR SFC II) b. Or : 1. you can insert the Charger stats inbetween the existing row entries of the sfbspc.txt file.
